Every woman wants to look youthful and vibrant, regardless of the age on her driver’s license. While plastic surgery demands in the 18-40 population remains steady, it is no surprise that there has been a jump in women over the age of fifty getting a little nip here and a tweak there.
Many are starting off with non-invasive options such as dermal fillers, laser treatments and Botox. While others are heading straight for the options that will give them the most dramatic results – such as tummy tucks, breast and face lifts!
This increase in middle-aged women having surgery can be attributed to dear, sweet Mother Nature. As a woman ages her skin begins to lose its ability produce collagen and elastin, which in turn leads to drier, thinner skin. Let’s be honest, who wants that? Fillers and volumizers, such as Restylane and Sculptra are great for helping to restore fuller, fresher looking skin while softening the lines of aging. According to The Harvey Medical Group, a UK based medical group, these types of procedures have increased by more than 70 per cent over the past year.
According to the ASAPS, patients between the ages of 51 and 64 account for nearly 25 percent of all cosmetic surgeries performed. Eyelid surgery, liposuction, and breast enhancement surgery are a few of the top procedures among the more distinguished group of ladies.
Another reason that women in their 50’s may be able to undergo more procedures, may have something to do with the fact that they have a higher level of disposable income and sometimes a more flexible schedule than their younger counterparts.
