Mother’s Day is right around the corner, (but surely no reminder is needed)!
Here are a few things that would make great gifts for others or perfect to ask for yourself. It’s never too early to start dropping those hints!

·      Sweet Honey Dip Chocolate Brown Sugah by Carol’s Daughter - $35
Instead of boring chocolates, this year why not try a chocolaty body scrub? The sugar crystals will exfoliate your skin, leaving you silky soft. This scrub contains Primrose Oil, Olive oil, Vitamin E and antioxidants.  These are fabulous for helping to improve your skin’s elasticity and keep you moisturized!

·      Lip Scrub by Sarah Happ - $24
Another sweet treat that will spare your waistline! This luxurious lip scrub will leave you wanting to kiss that special someone with your newly soft and supple lips. The luscious line comes in several different flavors such as Crème Brulee, Vanilla Bean, Red Velvet and Peppermint.

·      Clarisonic Mia – $149
If you or your sweetie don’t own a Clarisonic Brush yet, you probably don’t understand what you’re missing! It is an ultrasonic skin cleansing brush used to clean and exfoliate your face more thoroughly than using your hands and soap. The Mia is the smaller, travel-sized version of the Clarisonic Pro that improves skin tone, reduces the appearance of pore size and helps you preferred skin care products work most effectively.

·      Facial Gift Certificate
Nothing is more pampering than giving your honey the gift of a facial! Said to be more relaxing than a massage, a classic or deep cleansing facial is something that any mother would LOVE! If you really want to wow, why not give a gift certificate for one of our Signature facials? This facial combines ruby crystals and our “signature” blend of botanicals and is massaged to resurface your skin. We have gift certificates that would be great for any occasion! Solutions for Adult Acne

It’s hard enough dealing with the occasional breakout as a teenager, but many adults are still suffering from the embarrassing signs of acne, such as blackheads, whiteheads, bumpy skin and redness.

If your current skin care regime just isn’t cutting it, or you’d just like to see exactly how good your skin can look, we invite you to pay a visit to our Orlando Plastic Surgery and Skin Care center for a consultation with Amanda.

For recalcitrant acne, you may want to consider a treatment known as ALA + Blue Light Therapy.

Aminolevulinic acid (ALA) combined with non-invasive blue light therapy is used to effectively treat stubborn acne.  ALA is a photosensitizing agent which causes your skin to be more susceptible to light.

The treatment begins with exfoliating the skin to remove any dead cells and debris.  ALA is then applied to the face for 15 to 60 minutes (the length of time depends on the severity of the acne).  The photosensitizing agent is removed and the blue light therapy begins.  The blue light kills bacteria that causes acne and shrinks the skin’s oil glands reducing oil within the pores.  This pain-free treatment also helps rehabilitate the overall texture of your skin including acne scarring.

Some patients notice a change in skin tone after just one treatment; However, three to five treatments are recommended for best results.

To learn more on how to solve your skin’s worst problems, call Aesthetic Enhancements Plastic Surgery- our Orlando Plastic Surgery and skincare center to schedule your complimentary consultation with our experienced Paramedical Aesthetician - Amanda Chapman.  There’s no need to let acne get the best of you, especially when there’s an easy way to fight back!

Healthy Eating for Anti-Aging

Have you heard the saying that what you take into your body comes out on your skin?  Well this is true.  Consuming certain foods can help you fight the anti-aging battle that we all want to win.  The key to this is simple- make sure the foods you eat are nutrition-packed and rich in antioxidants.  Here are some suggestions to stock your fridge in a way that will keep your skin looking radiant and youthful!
Vibrant colored fruit and vegetables are going to contain high levels of antioxidants.  Avocado, spinach and orange colored squash are great items to look for in the vegetable aisle.  As far as fruits go, you will want to look for berries (especially blueberries) melons, kiwi and peaches.  Make sure your fruits and vegetables are as fresh as possible.  Three to five servings of vegetables and two to four servings of fruit are recommended daily.

Omega-3 essential fatty acids are your next ticket to anti-aging.  The most potent and effective omega-3’s, or fish oils, are found in fish such as salmon, mackerel, snapper and trout.  With its powerful ability to reduce inflammation, Omega-3’s are extremely beneficial to the skin, especially those who suffer with eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis.   They can also help replenish fats lost in the skin that lead to dryness or excessive flaking due to the polyunsaturated fats in fish oils.

Do not put aside your antioxidant creams and serums though!  They are still important.  We have to fight this battle from the inside as well as the outside since only so much of what we consume internally actually reaches our skin.  Diet and skincare complement each other so combine the two for the best outcome

The Link Between Acne and Depression

An embarrassing breakout or two goes hand in hand with adolescence, but what happens when that tiny pimple becomes a larger problem? Researchers have long been studying the relationship between acne and depression, especially throughout the teenage years. During that time period the surges in hormones manifest themselves in the form of acne. It is no surprise that this often leads to problems with self-esteem and depression among teens.

Puberty, dating and exams-The time period is stressful enough. But if you think that stress is to blame for acne, you would be wrong… While stress can worsen acne, it does not cause it.

Acne is caused by bacteria that is trapped under the skin. Once acne appears, it is easy to become frustrated and depressed- which only makes the problem worse.

Researchers started investigating the link between acne and depression in 1948, finding that no other disease caused as much psychic trauma as acne. Some researchers have found that people that are depressed often have lower self-esteem. Those same people with acne are also less likely to stick to a skin cleansing routine, even one that has been recommended by a dermatologist.

There has been much speculation surrounding acne medications, such as Accutane causing depression and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. While the FDA has conducted an investigation and subsequent warnings, not everyone is convinced.  On the other hand, depression medications have been proven to greatly improve acne.

There are many other treatments such as ALA and photodynamic light therapy, as well as Mixto laser resurfacing that can help lessen the appearance of acne and scars, if not completely eliminate them.

Acne can be down right frustrating and embarrassing - if you need some assistance getting your persistent acne under control its important to see a skin specialist, like our paramedical aesthetician Amanda Chapman.  Call today for your complimentary consultation, and have your skin flawless in no time! 407.218.4550.

The Importance of Winter Skin Care

Even though the temperatures may only drop enough to give us that winter chill for a few days at a time, our skin changes quite a bit during the winter season.

Are you noticing itchy skin, dry patches and redness?  How about dry, cracked lips?  These are all signs that the winter weather is getting the best of your skin.

Our Paramedical Aesthetician, Amanda Chapman, has put together a few quick and easy tips to keep your skin glowing all throughout the holiday season!

You may be wondering why your skin has changed so much even though you are using the same products and skincare regimen you always do.  The lack of humidity combined with a drop in temperature can lead to dry, irritated and itchy skin.

During the cooler months, you will most likely need to step up your moisturizer to one that is more hydrating.

If you typically use a lotion, switch to a cream that will be more emollient.  If you already use a heavy cream, try adding a moisturizing serum underneath to layer in the extra hydration such as our Sesha Nutritious Lipo Serum that contains evening primrose and carrot oils.

Though it might be tempting to jump into a toasty, hot shower  - DON’T do it!  This will not only dry out but also cause irritation to the skin.

For a sweet cure to rid your pout of dry lips, check your pantry for two household items: brown sugar and olive oil.  By mixing these two ingredients together and making a paste, you will conjure up a fabulous, and inexpensive, lip exfoliant to slough away dead skin.  This concoction can be used 1-2 times a week to leave cracked, peeling lips looking and feeling kissably smooth.

Follow this with your favorite lip balm applied throughout the day and at night before going to bed .

Amanda also recommends any product that contains shea butter, such as L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Lip Balm Stick or Korres Lip Butter for a soft and healthy pucker!

Vitamedica: A Healing Wonder!

 “and it’s so Healthy too!”

Imagine a magical pill that can lend a hand to sustaining your youthful energy, slow down the aging process and even help you bounce back from surgery… Sound just a little to good to be true?

Here at Aesthetic Enhancements Plastic Surgery, Dr. Armando Soto promotes only the most safe & effective products to keep you looking and feeling your best -  VitaMedica just happens to be one of them!

VitaMedica is a quality product line of nutritional supplements and healing remedies to help speed up the recovery period after surgery. Multiple studies have shown that the key ingredients in our supplements will shorten the duration of swelling and bruising after plastic surgical procedures, and our patient’s have agreed.

The Healing and Support Kit is one of the most popular products, and is geared toward surgery patients to help them recover more quickly and maintain great post-op results. By combining two separate products, Arnica Montana and Bromelain, this supplement works magic to provide a smooth and speedy recovery.

Arnica Montana is a homeopathic medicine that helps patients obtain temporary relief from bruising, swelling and pain.  While prescription medications suppress symptoms like bruising, homeopathic medications encourage them. This way the body heals faster and still creates a resistance to infection.

Bromelain with Quercetin is a formula mixed with the two botanicals, also used to treat inflammation and pain that tends to follow a surgical procedure.  The Bromelain works by fending off the metabolites that accelerate the inflammatory process.  It also helps break up hemotomas - which is a collection of blood caused by soft tissue injuries.  Bye-bye bruises!

It’s a great idea to invest in the Healing Kit when preparing for surgery.  After the anesthesia wears off, you will be on your way to a fast recovery period with optimal results!

Help Prevent Sun Damage With This Must Have Accessory!

Here at Aesthetic Enhancements we consider it our responsibility to educate patients on the risks involved with sun exposure.  Though you may think a nice tan provides a youthful image…the reality is quite the contrary.  In a few years, when you start to notice the consequences of sun worshipping, you will be wishing you could go back in time to lather more SPF on your face!

Sunspots, wrinkles, and premature aging are all signs of sun damage.  Unfortunately, it’s only after the harmful exposure that these signs appear.  Now, thanks to a simple wristband, you can be warned when it counts! UVSunSense is an ultraviolet-monitoring, sun-sensitive bracelet that changes color when it senses too much sun exposure.

Before heading outdoors, apply sunscreen to yourself and the wristband.  The bracelet’s photo chromatic dye allows it to change colors depending on the length of time spent basking in UV rays.  The waterproof band starts off orange and turns to a purple shade upon exposure to sunlight.  If it changes shade to a dark brown, you should reapply your SPF.  If it returns to light orange, it’s time for you to stop whatever you are doing and head inside!  For just ten dollars a pack, this is quite a clever investment!

For some of us, we are just a few sunspots too late for the wristband to completely save our complexion. However, it is never too late to start taking better care of your skin and preventing further signs of sun damage from appearing. If you are regretting the time spent in the sun and so is your face, Laser Skin Resurfacing can help diminish the signs of aging!

Here at Aesthetic Enhancements we offer the MiXto Fractionated Laser and the IPL Photofacial which both can help treat sun damage and rejuvenate the skin for a younger looking complexion!  Call our Orlando, Florida Plastic Surgery, Skin Care & Hair Restoration Center to schedule a complimentary skin consultation today!

The Beauty Benefits of Drinking Water

How Can H2O Give You A Healthy Glow?
We all know that we are supposed to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day to keep our bodies hydrated and healthy.  What you may not know is that water can also have wonderful benefits to improve your skin.  I know it can be hard for some to drink as much water as is recommended but it might be worth making the effort if it will keep your skin looking more youthful!

Beauty Benefit #1
Drinking water helps to hydrate from the inside out - which can provide the hydration your skin needs to maintain elasticity and suppleness.   Our skin is comprised of 90% water but we have to provide the water it needs.

Beauty Benefit #2
Drinking water and getting plenty of rest helps to reduce under eye circles by encouraging proper circulation.

Beauty Benefit #3
Drinking water can assist acne sufferers with clearing their skin.  Water helps to release toxins that can lead to congested skin and blemishes.

Beauty Benefit #4
Drinking plenty of water throughout the day can help to eliminate water retention under the skin.  Water retention is a large contributor to cellulite and puffiness under the eyes.

The Benefits of Monthly Facials

Wouldn’t you love to be able to have carefree skin? A complexion that doesn’t always seem to do the opposite of what you would prefer? A monthly facial, when performed properly by a Paramedical Aesthetician, can benefit your skin immensely by improving skin texture, slowing down the skin’s aging process and giving an overall fresh & youthful glow!

Facials can be the soothing solution to many common skin woes such as breakouts, dryness and/or oiliness and even aging.  Many over the counter cosmetic companies claim you can receive the same results with at home facial kits. However, there isn’t a single one of these products that can mimic the overall benefits of a monthly facial regimen with a Paramedical Aesthetician.  If you are looking for healthy, flawless skin, you will definitely begin to see and feel the transformation even after just one treatment!

A Deep Cleansing Facial, available at our Orlando, Florida Plastic Surgery, Skin Care & Hair Restoration Center, will not only cleanse and purify your pores, but will also balance your skin’s hydration level regardless of your skin type.  As you progress with your monthly facials, blackheads and blemishes will be reduced, or even eliminated in some cases.  This in turn will refine your pores thus making them appear smaller.

Whether you have aggravating dry patches, or feel like your t-zone is always shiny - your facial treatments will balance these conditions leaving your skin more comfortable and smooth.  Remember, the natural balance of your skin may change with the seasons throughout the year. Each facial will be customized from start to finish based on the needs of your skin at that time.

Are you concerned about aging?  Add an anti-aging specialty mask to your facial to infuse your skin with antioxidants and botanicals that will provide firmness and repair damage from past or present sun transgressions. Even if your skin is in good condition, a monthly facial will cleanse the damaging effects of pollution, make-up and excess accumulation from the oil glands that can other wise speed up the aging process.

New! Sculptra Aesthetic

Introducing… Sculptra Aesthetic!
The New Age of Anti-Age
It’s no secret that most women have been searching for the cosmetic fountain of youth for years! The battle against aging is one that most of us encounter on a daily basis. However, with the collaboration of science and modern technology, preserving our physical appearance has become much more manageable for today’s men and women.

Botox and fillers, such as Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse, help soften our wrinkles and bring back a youthful, supple appearance.  Lasers are a great remedy for removing brown spots, broken blood vessels and to help tighten and smooth imperfections of the skin. Improving the skin’s color and texture can be just one part of the equation, but how can we eliminate sagging skin caused by the loss of elasticity and collagen?

The answer lies within the latest breakthrough in non-invasive procedures ---Sculptra  Aesthetic! Sculptra is an FDA approved treatment for the correction of facial wrinkles and contour deficiencies.  This fabulous product works gradually to replace the collagen that is lost during the aging process leaving skin looking years younger!

At the age of 30, the face naturally begins to lose volume caused by the breakdown of collagen fibers. Fine lines, wrinkles and folds start to appear and worsen over time.  While injectables fill in these wrinkles, Sculptra Aesthetic is designed to re-volumize the skin. It simply “plumps” the skin back up - giving a more tightened, youthful look. Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid, a safe and effective medical product that has been used for years in absorbable sutures as well as medical implants.

Sculptra is a wonderful alternative for a mini-facelift without having surgery! The maintenance is extremely minimal, with treatments performed once every 4 weeks (with an average of 1-3 sessions). The procedure can take approximately one hour to complete and has virtually no side effects. The results are miraculous and will last a minimum of 2 years!

While we can’t turn back the hands of time, we can utilize this wonderful combination of science and technology to help erase the years from our appearance! Call our Orlando, Florida plastic surgery, skin care and hair restoration center today for a complimentary consultation with Michelle to see how Sculptra Aesthetic can help rejuvenate the look of your skin!

Cosmetic Surgery on the Wedding Planning Agenda

The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming and it is peak time for wedding season! Many brides-to-be have spent months on end selecting the perfect dress, flowers and cake to make their special day flawless! Most women scrutinize every detail of this day, right down to fine-tuning their physical appearance. Today, cosmetic surgery is a common item for not only the bride, but also for the mother of the bride and bridesmaids on the wedding planning “To Do List”!
Most brides aren’t looking to dramatically change their image, however, procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentation and facial procedures seem to be amongst the most popular enhancements prior to the “big day”.
Botox, fillers and chemical peels are also extremely popular amongst the mothers of the brides. These treatments are used to easily smooth fine lines and wrinkles - ultimately making skin appear more soft and youthful in wedding pictures. Sclerotherapy can also be beneficial for eliminating spider veins.
As with many of the wedding preparations, it is important to plan appropriately when considering any cosmetic procedure. First and foremost, make sure to select a surgeon that is board certified in plastic surgery. It is imperative to take time researching potential surgeons to ensure that you will achieve your desired outcome and receive proper care.
The surgeon will also work with you to make sure your surgery is scheduled in time for a complete recovery. Depending on what type of cosmetic procedure you choose, it should be performed anywhere from 1-4 months prior to your chosen date to achieve complete results. The best thing to do is to make an appointment for a consultation with your plastic surgeon as early as possible to start planning your beauty time line.
Whether you are looking to just touch up a few wrinkles or surgically enhance your features to look your best in your wedding dress, our Orlando, Florida Plastic Surgery, Skin Care & Hair Restoration Center will make sure you look and feel your very best for your dream wedding.  Please visit www.drarmandosoto.com for a complete listing of beauty treatments that can help you and your bridal party look picture perfect before you say your “I Do’s”!
