Botox Bargains - Safe or Scary?

Along with the Holidays, comes the cool wintery chill, a plethora of tasty treats and of course oodles of seasonal discounts on products & services!  This year, you may find certain aesthetic procedures, such as Botox, advertised for prices that sound too good to be true – and this may be because they are just that…
Medi spas, nail salons and even local gyms are popping up all over the place with deals such as $7 per unit (compared to the average $10 per unit) for Botox injections. This might sound like a steal, but the question is: Is it safe to have this kind of procedure done in this type of setting?
The truth is, Botox can only be prescribed and administered by a doctor, physician assistant or a nurse practitioner. Any doctor can perform the procedure in his/her primary care practice; no specialized background in dermatology or plastic surgery is required. On the other hand, these providers (Board Certified Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologists) have years of training in aesthetics and facial anatomy that other providers don’t, making the achievement of safe and reliably positive outcomes in their hands more likely.
However, under Florida law, any aesthetic center that isn't the doctor's primary office — the nurse practitioner or physician assistant must be supervised by a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon, though they don't have to be present to administer the drug.
When choosing a provider based on price, you may not always receive the most reliable outcome. So, before opting to rid yourself of some wrinkles, remember that the results can last up to four months.
That being said, you might want to think twice about whom you choose to do your injections – you don’t want to end up with uneven eyebrows, now do you?  Or worse, how can you be sure it’s actually Botox being injected? Definitely not worth the risk just to save a few pennies…
Choosing a skilled provider is key - trust yourself with only an expert.  Here at Aesthetic Enhancements Plastic Surgery, our Nurse Practitioner, Michelle Boone, has been beautifying patients for over 10 years! Vampire Fillers - Using Your Own Blood To Banish Wrinkles

Beauty seekers are always looking for new, exciting ways to maintain a youthful appearance.  When it comes to using something so simple, and natural like your own blood, it’s hard for some to resist.  Plasma fillers, also called “vampire fillers” are said to do just that.

The filler is made by extracting blood from the patient and spinning it until the plasma is separated from the red blood cells.  The plasma is then injected to rid the face of fine lines and wrinkles.  It has also been used to treat under eyes, hands and the neck to rejuvenate and plump up the skin.  It takes about 3 months and a few treatments to notice the results.

Plasma filler providers say this is a natural alternative to other dermal fillers.  However, once the blood has been ejected from your body and processed, it becomes a foreign body like any other filler when re-injected.  The safety and success of this treatment are still questionable and much more research is needed before it becomes a mainstream solution for aging skin.

There are already many other cosmetic fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm that are proven to be very safe and effective – and they even last up to a year!

Regardless of what filler you use, it is important to keep in mind that the quality of the outcome is substantially dependent upon the skill of the provider.  If you are interested in learning more about dermal fillers offered here at Aesthetic Enhancements, call us today for your complimentary consultation with our filler expert - Michelle Boone, ARNP
