What is a Brazilian Blowout?

Don’t worry ladies, I’m not talking about a visit to your nearest waxing salon. The Brazilian Blowout is a keratin hair straightening treatment that promises to give you frizz-free, shiny hair that is more manageable. It is said to keep hair gorgeous for up to 12 weeks and only takes about an hour to complete.

This little miracle procedure has been stirring up quite a buzz! Many women are following in the footsteps of celebrities, such as Jennifer Aniston to get it done. There are also those that have a few questions regarding the safety of this treatment.

The Brazilian Blowout Company has claimed to be formaldehyde-free, saying that the products applied are simply amino acids and proteins. But after Oregon stylists complained of eye irritation, nose bleeds and difficulty breathing, OSHA testing found there to be traces of formaldehyde in the product samples taken from 2 Oregon salons. According to safety standards, .2% of formaldehyde exposure is considered “safe”. The salons tests were between 4 and 10%! A Canadian government-based health agency found a whopping 12%.

So what does this mean? Only that the exposure is anywhere from 20-60% above the level that is considered safe and that formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. But then again, that has not stopped people from smoking cigarettes! If the Brazilian were to be applied according to formaldehyde safety standards, clients and stylists would have to use masks, goggles, possibly respirators. That certainly would change the whole serene experience of a spa!

Letting it All Grow Out For Fall!

Getting a monthly hair dye can be a pricey chore, but thanks to celeb’s new trend, roots are in!  Who would have thought that having dark roots and lighter sun kissed ends would ever be a sought after style?  This new hairdo is a dream come true for the low maintenance girl and is easy on the pocketbook!  Check out the stars making a statement with their new ombre do...

The Right Way To Root

Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lauren Conrad are just a few examples of blonde bombshells who have given their longer roots a chance!  Growing your roots out more than a few inches will make your worn out locks look more like a new hairstyle, rather than a result of laziness (or lack of cash)!  Plus, spreading out your color treatments will be less damaging to your stresses.

Blondes Don’t Have All The Fun!
These three starlets prove this look isn’t just for blondes!  Brunettes can rock their roots as well adding a nice contrast with the darker and lighter shades of brown.  Ashlee’s style gives her an edgier, rocker image.  If this isn’t the statement you’d like to make, you could try a softer, sweeter look like Jessica Biel or Rachel Bilson!

So maybe you should think twice before scheduling your next hair appointment... or perhaps this is a style stunt that only the rich & famous can pull off!

The Healthy Hair Menu
Next time you start to blame the weather (or your new hairstylist) for your drab hair style, you should know there is another factor that could be bringing down your ‘do.  The same way that diet affects the rest of the body, it also affects the condition of your hair.  Here are some helpful tips on what foods you can add to your diet to improve the health of your hair!

For Damaged Hair
For more luscious locks, add protein and dark green veggies to your diet.  This will improve the condition of the hair and give it an overall healthier look.  Calcium found in low fat dairy products is also vital for healthy hair growth.
Foods to Try:  Beans, Eggs, Yogurt, Cottage Cheese

For Out of Control Dandruff
To get rid of embarrassing dandruff, eat more Zinc!  Eating foods containing Zinc will help repair damaged hair and also reduce dandruff.
Foods to Try:  Whole Grain Bread, Whole Grain Breakfast Cereal, Oysters (also an aphrodisiac!)

For a Dry Scalp
If you have a dry scalp, increase your intake of Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin A which both act as a natural conditioner for the scalp.
Foods to Try: Walnuts, Salmon, Grape Fruit, Carrots

For Dry & Brittle Hair
Brittle hair can be the result of a diet low in Omega-3 fatty acids, Zinc, Vitamins A and E, and Biotin which protects the follicle against dryness, graying, and breakage.
Foods to Try:  Nuts, Green Leafy Vegetables, Cod, Avocado

For Oily Hair
Vitamins A and C help your body to create Sebum - a natural moisturizer that will help regulate natural oils and keep your hair hydrated.  Eliminate foods with saturated oils and be sure to include more raw foods in your diet.
Foods to Try:  Raw Sushi, Oranges, Strawberries, Raw Broccoli

For Preventing Hair Loss
The mineral, Silica, is believed to slow down hair loss and possibly prevent it.
Foods to Try:  Peppers, Potatoes, and Sprouts

For Dull Hair
An Omega-6 fatty acid, GLA, promotes healthy hair growth and nourishes hair strands giving your mane a natural shine.  Copper can also help prevent the loss of hair pigmentation.
Foods to Try:  Lean Meats, Cold Water Fish, Wheatgrass and Algae, Sesame Seeds, Nuts, Mushrooms

NOT on the Menu:
Alcohol, Coffee, Black Tea, and Sugar
Stay away from these foods! These substances can prevent the absorption of  vitamins and minerals needed to maintain beautiful, healthy hair!

Keep in mind that dietary changes only affect new hair growth - it will take a few months before you will notice improvements in your hair’s condition! Combining the proper diet with daily moisturizing shampoo and conditioning treatments will lead to optimal results!

NeoGraft - A Breakthrough in Hair Restoration Technology

Is progressive hair loss or a receding hairline becoming a preoccupation for you? Do you feel like you’re starting to look much older than you feel?

Men and women suffering from hair loss  need not feel embarrassed or anxious about their options any longer  - hair restoration with the NeoGraft system can help grow hair while regaining your old charm and elegance!

Our Orlando, Florida premier plastic surgery and skin care center is proud to be the only facility in Central Florida to offer the latest method of hair transplantation using the NeoGraft system.  Without pain, scarring or downtime, you too can now achieve a luscious head of hair – permanently.

In the hands of our highly educated and skilled professionals, this modern technique allows for follicular unit extraction (FUE), in which one follicular unit at a time is strategically placed into the scalp at the perfect angle - resulting in a more natural looking hair growth pattern- without the unsightly or thick scars that often result from traditional hair transplantation techniques.

As the aging process takes hold, further hair loss may occur in areas that were not previously treated. Unlike traditional methods of hair transplantation, this less invasive method can be used multiple times -without concern about additional scars- to achieve the full head of hair you are looking for.

When researching hair restoration, it is important to choose your hair transplant surgeon with care.  Only a qualified expert will be able to diagnose the scalp properly and provide positive, permanent results.  Factors such as angle, placement, direction and color of the surrounding hair must be taken into account to ensure that the fresh hair grows into a lush outcrop and blends with the hair that is growing naturally.

If your goal is to have an abundant head of hair that can grow for years on your once shiny top, the NeoGraft may be just the solution you are looking for.

It is important to explore your hair loss options and have your questions answered by an expert. Call us today to see if you may be a candidate and schedule your complimentary consultation with our elite medically trained staff.  We look forward to helping you achieve the youthful head of hair you deserve!
