Beauty Gifts That Over Promise and Under Deliver

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, many are trying to figure out that perfect gift for a loved one. With so many new products, it is sometimes difficult to know which gifts would be a hit and which might land you in the “dog house” - or at least a few funny looks. Here are a few of the worst beauty products that you might want to leave on the shelves:

Digital Bad Breath Checker for Women
Looking for something for your tech savy friend? Nothing says “I Love You” like a device that lets you know that you might be in need of some mouthwash. The only reason that someone might want one is as a gag gift or for their aunt that tends to drink too much. The bad breath checker will set you back $47, which could also buy a ton of breath mints!

Eat Yourself Beautiful with Collagen Marshmallows
Do you have a friend who loves sweet treats and staying forever young? You might want to stay away from these little marshmallows. While the idea of collagen marshmallows seems like a great idea, the truth is that they may do more harm than good! There is very little scientific evidence that proves that ingesting collagen will help sustain the skin’s elasticity. High amounts of sugar in the marshmallows actually cause the skin’s elasticity to break down faster than normal.

Slendertone Face
While everyone would love to have tight, wrinkle-free skin, the reality is over time we develop tiny signs of a lifetime of good times!  If only there was a product that would help exercise facial muscles. The Slendertone Face is another scary looking gadget that you might see on a late night infomercial. It promises to stimulate the face through electrical impulses, but fails to deliver on those promises. Definitely not on the top of our wish list!

All of these products are aimed at helping women to look and feel better about themselves,  when in fact, the end result is nothing but an empty promise.

If you are looking to give the perfect gift, why not give a gift certificate to Aesthetic Enhancements? We have a wide range of products and services that are proven to give you the results you are looking for. Call today at 407-218-4550 to give the gift of beauty!

Do Attractive People Have the Competitive Edge in the Workforce?

With the New Year rapidly approaching, many dread this time of year and fear for the unspoken…layoffs.

Although it may be hard to swallow, older employees occasionally find themselves replaced by younger, more attractive staff members.  Aesthetic maintenance has, for some professionals, become a professional necessity- staying competitive by keeping a fresh and youthful appearance.

While experience, work performance and pay rate are often taken into consideration during this process, many studies have also proven that attractive people are more likely to land their dream job, and live happier, more fulfilling lives.

And while image isn’t the only factor in achieving happiness (or a successful career), self-confidence definitely plays a huge role. After surgery, the majority of our patients do experience a new sense of self-confidence and happiness with their self-image.

The Mommy Makeover, Brazilian Butt Lift, Breast Enhancement (breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction), Abdominoplasty and even injectable dermal fillers are just a few common procedures that many patients choose to enhance their image.  Board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Armando Soto, specializes in each of these, among many others, to help patients look and feel better about themselves everyday.

The Psychological Benefits of a Mommy Makeover

Mirror, mirror on the wall….Along with that brand new bundle of joy, comes a new found shape for even the fairest mommy of them all.
For most of us, our personal appearance is tied to our overall sense of self-happiness more so than we’d like to admit - especially after having a brand new baby! Could this be a result of society’s perception that attractive people have distinct advantages and lead happier, more fulfilling lives?
According to the Social Issues Research Center, studies show that:

·      Attractive children are more popular, both with classmates and teachers. Teachers give higher evaluations to the work of attractive children and have higher expectations of them (which has been shown to improve performance).
·      Attractive applicants have a better chance of getting jobs, and of receiving higher salaries.
·      In court, attractive people are found guilty less often. When found guilty, they receive less severe sentences.
·      The 'bias for beauty' operates in almost all social situations – all experiments show we react more favorably to physically attractive people.
The notion that attractiveness correlates with success, happiness and personal fulfillment still rings true.  Whether you are a stay at home mom or a career woman, the physical and emotional effects of childbearing can be life changing for many women - even despite a rigorous diet and exercise regime!
So, Mommies…don’t push the panic button just yet! The Mommy Makeover procedure has answered the prayers of many women.  Just because your body has endured the miracles of motherhood, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t look better than ever!
The Mommy Makeover is a tailored formula designed to restore a woman’s body to pre-pregnancy condition (if not better) and rejuvenate self-confidence. It can include any combination of the following procedures: breast lift, breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift with augmentation, and a tummy tuck, liposuction or buttock lift.

Striving to maintain an attractive body image is not a vain endeavor, but a quest to achieve happiness and self-confidence.  The best way to understand what a Mommy Makeover could do for you, is to visit with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and discuss your goals. At Aesthetic Enhancements Plastic Surgery, we believe that the combination of our team's education, training, integrity, and the outcomes we provide our patients make us a great choice for your aesthetic care.

Which Celebrity Mom Fits Your Style?

We spend many years thinking that our Mothers are the most beautiful women alive. As little girls we dress up in her clothes to feel sophisticated and grown up. Now that we are “grown up”, do you help your princess (or prince) express their inner fashionista?

Here at my Orlando Plastic Surgery, Skin Care and Hair Restoration Center we see many mothers come in with their adorable children. With so many lovely mommy/baby duos in Hollywood, which pair do you think most resembles you and your little one’s fashion style?

If you are lusting after one (or all) of the celebrity’s look, we have found similar outfits for all budgets!

Classic – Katie Holmes and little Suri are definitely classy ladies that choose timeless over trendy.  Looking cute in their matching outfits, these two have been known to even sport the same hairstyle. I wonder if Tom has a matching striped shirt as well?
This look is perfect for those with a boyish, slender frame that are seeking a more curvy figure!

Glamour Girl - Reese Witherspoon and daughter Ava have a glamorous, old Hollywood style that is just adorable. Looks like Reese’s son, Deacon has his own unique style that is a bit different from the rest of his family! This look is perfect for showing off toned legs.

Rocker –Pete Wentz, Ashlee Simpson and baby Bronx are almost always seen sporting a rock n roll tee and skinny jeans, well Ashlee and Pete at least. I am sure if they had skinny jeans for babies, Bronx would have some too! This look is fantastic to showcase toned arms.

Bohemian Chic – Kate Hudson and son Ryder love that Bohemian look, with loose fitting clothes and wind blown hair. Earthy tones and linen fabrics are a staple in their wardrobe! Looser fitting, Bohemian tops are almost as good as magic when it comes to camouflaging midsections.

Relaxed - Gisele Bundchen and her son like keeping it low key while out. In jeans, shades and a hat the pair looks great, but then again, she IS a supermodel! This look is universal and All American!

Trendy – Sunglasses on a baby? Only if you are a trendsetter like Ellen Pompeo’s daughter Stella. While most babies wouldn’t stand to have a hat on, the 7 month old, has quite the ensemble with her hat, sunglasses and adorable mary janes. With so many trendy options out there, this is something that can make you stand out in a crowd!

Lipomassage by Endermologie

Helping Us Fight Cellulite!

Attention Ladies!  Are you ready to show off your favorite bikini without having to cover it up?  Live a little this summer!  Uncover yourself and shed your sarong!  Everyone knows having cellulite can make you feel self-conscious and embarrassed, but what you may not have known is that 90% of women have this same summer setback.  So you are not alone, not even close.  And you aren’t out of luck either.  Endermologie can help!

Though eating right and exercising regularly is very beneficial to your body and health, it may not always do the trick for your stubborn cellulite.  Cellulite is caused by fatty pockets that poke out between connective tissues beneath the skin, making there mark where everyone can see.  Lipomassage by Endermologie helps smooth out these annoying lumps and bumps by stimulating the reaction of fat release and the production of collagen and elastin.  This improves your skin’s health and elasticity.  It’s important to know that cellulite creams scientifically do not work because they will not penetrate the skin deep enough to have any effect on the fat, so don’t waste your money lathering up! Endermologie is the only FDA approved treatment proven to work.

Even better, Lipomassage by Endermologie is painless and noninvasive!  Lipomassage is a mechanical roller used in combination with gentle suction, so it feels more like a massage than anything else.  With a series of at least 10-14 simple treatments, this procedure can slim fat cells, smooth cellulite, firm the skin and sculpt your figure.  Like other procedures, routine treatments are required to maintain the desired smoothness.

If you’d like to learn more about Lipomassage by Endermologie and how it can help you fight cellulite, call our Orlando, Florida Plastic Surgery, Skin Care and Hair Restoration Center today to set up a free consultation - 407.218.4550!  And remember, you don’t have to cover up this summer!

Rejuvenation of the Female Genitalia- or "The Scoop on Designer Privates"

Have you heard the buzz now surrounding procedures designed to rejuvenate the female genitalia- and therefore your love life?

It used to be that if a woman wanted to add a little spice to her love life, she might buy some new lingerie, learn a few new bedroom techniques or even pay a visit to an adult toy store. Modern plastic surgery now allows women a new and innovative route to boost self-esteem and please their partner: They're having “intimate” makeovers!

"Vaginal Rejuvenation" procedures give women a chance to tune-up below the belt and either tighten those areas that may have been changed by childbirth, or to just enhance those that Mother Nature made asymmetrical or a little less than perfect. These issues can also cause many women to experience pain or discomfort during sex or while wearing certain types of clothing.

“Vaginal Rejuvenation” actually refers to two types of surgery that can help with these concerns: Vaginoplasty, which involves tightening of the vaginal canal, and Labiaplasty, which involves trimming uneven, asymmetric, droopy, bulky [or] discolored labia that a woman might find unsightly or uncomfortable.

While some of you may cringe at the idea of someone re-sculpting their most sensitive spots, statistics show that procedures such as these are trending upward rapidly. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported fewer than 800 vaginal rejuvenations in 2005, but by 2009, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery tallied more than 2,500 annually.

"Things were not right down there," said a 36-year-old Lansdowne mother of three who said that she also suffered post-childbirth urinary incontinence. "Sexually, I was blank-feeling. Now, my vaginal area feels like I'm a teenager, really. It's like back to its original state. I'm so glad I did it." This experience is typical for patients in our Orlando Plastic Surgery and Skin Care Center as well.

Let’s face the facts ladies, it’s no secret that most women have or will have to experience this at some point in their lives! Whether it is something you are born with, caused by age or childbirth, there is no reason to feel ashamed or embarrassed about this sort of thing. Why NOT do something about it if you can make a change that will leave you looking and feeling your best both physically and sexually?
Feel GOOD about yourself!

Exercise during pregnancy is safe- and may help you regain your pre-baby body!

Today I want to introduce Carin Brochu to our reading audience. Carin is a certified trainer and nutritionist, and will be providing material and answering questions related to these areas for our blog, as well as our monthly newsletters (wanna subscribe?- email me at drsoto@mac.com).

If you have a question about nutrition or exercise and how they affect your beauty and health, please send your emails to us! We'll make sure Carin gets them and posts her answers.

It has long been believed that exercise is unsafe for pregnant women.  Unfortunately for our female ancestors this belief is 100% myth. Under the supervision of a medical doctor and a certified training professional, not only is exercising safe, but also extremely beneficial while pregnant.

Beyond the first trimester there are certain precautions to take while exercising such as remaining in an upright position throughout exercise. This means you must never perform exercises that require you to lie on your back or your stomach. Also, there is a lower then normal heart rate limit due to the amount of blood flow necessary for the fetus. Luckily, a trained professional along with your medical doctor will be able to prescribe you a workout plan that is safe and extremely advantageous for you and your baby.

Benefits of exercising before labor include better health throughout pregnancy, a more comfortable delivery and the ability to return to your pre-baby body quicker and easier after delivery.

If you are currently pregnant or are planning to become pregnant: check into a safe exercise routine now. Proper planning today will bring you and your family a more pleasant tomorrow.

The Mommy Makeover Demystified

Mommy makeover surgery is among the more popular procedures in my practice, and is also one of those with the highest rates of patient satisfaction. I find it fulfilling to help mothers achieve the peaceful sense of confidence that comes from being happy once again with their appearance- but have noticed that the term is a bit confusing to some. Here is my best attempt to explain.

The term Mommy Makeover refers to a combination of procedures designed to return a woman's body to the pre-pregnancy condition (or better!), by addressing the changes that pregnancy and childbirth bring to (most often) the breasts and abdomen.

Mommy makeover, therefore, can include breast lift, breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift with augmentation, and a tummy tuck, modified tummy tuck, mini-tummy tuck, or liposuction. Many possible combinations are possible, and the exact nature of the procedure will depend on the individual woman's goals for her appearance, the changes that pregnancy and childbirth produced in her body, her overall state of health, and her preferred experience. The most common combination is breast augmentation with a tummy tuck.

So why do we combine the procedures so often that the combination has taken on this cute nickname? There are several good reasons that combining the procedures when possible is in your best interests...

By combining the procedures, you will experience one recovery period rather than two, meaning less time away from family and/or work responsibilities, as well as your preferred activities. You will usually also save a fair bit of money, as combining them shortens the overall length of surgery, and by improving the efficiency of your surgeon and the OR team, your costs are also significantly reduced (in most practices). Finally, it's my opinion that you will also (in most cases) enjoy a better outcome, as the contours of both areas of the body can be fine tuned to their greatest aesthetic harmony and proportion.

The best way to understand what a mommy makeover could do for you is to visit with a surgeon certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and discuss your goals with them. At Aesthetic Enhancements Plastic Surgery our consultations are complimentary, and we believe that the combination of our team's education, training, integrity, and the outcomes we provide our patients make us a great choice for your aesthetic care. Come visit us- we'll look forward to meeting you!
