The one I'll never forget, however, was the 60-something year old woman who told me she wanted a facelift so that she could attract 30 year old men. She said she had fallen in love with her daughter's ex-boyfriend and thought that if she had a facelift he would respond positively to her advances. When I explained that I was concerned that having surgery with this as a goal might end in her disappointment, and that aesthetic surgery should never be undertaken because you think it will (by itself) result in a better job/love life/income, etc, she looked over her glasses at me and said (in a bit of an angry tone), "Are you rejecting me too?!"
Whoa.
It took a fair bit of time and everything I knew about diplomacy to gracefully and kindly decline that consultation.
