How To Properly Care for Your Sunburn

With Spring’s sunshine in full swing and Summer just around the corner, it is time to let the outdoor activities and sunburns commence!  If you are among the many who dread the oily application of sunscreen, you may be all too familiar with lobster-like remnants of the sun’s harmful rays.  Luckily, there are a few steps that can be taken to help keep you comfortable and minimize your healing time after a scorching sunburn.

TO SOOTHE
Step 1: Aloe.
Especially when taken directly from an aloe plant,  aloe’s soothing properties will cool your skin and ease the sting of even the worst sunburn.

Step 2: Shea Butter.
Following your aloe application, use a moisturizer containing shea butter to quench your skin’s thirst for hydration.  Shea butter is one of the most nourishing skincare ingredients and known to be a highly effective skin healer.

If you have oily or acne prone skin, shea butter may be just a little too rich for your skin type and could lead to breakouts, so watch for any untoward reaction after your first application.

TO REPAIR
Once the dreadful redness and peeling have subsided, it is time to repair the damage that has been done.  Give your skin the touch of TLC it desires with antioxidants that will increase thickness, improve elasticity, scavenge free radicals and restore skin structure.

Vitamin C, Coffeeberry, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Grape Seed Extract are highly effective antioxidants and can be easily found in many skin care products.  At our Orlando, Florida Plastic Surgery and Skincare Center we have a variety of medical grade skincare products such as Revale, Neocutis and Sesha containing all of the vital nutrients needed to repair and replenish your complexion.  Our skin care consultations are free and we love helping people look their best- come see us soon, or look us up at www.DrArmandoSoto.com.
